Here is Nathan explaining what we did in our Light and Colour investigation.

Light and Colour

More fantastic science work from room 3....

We’re studying light and colour in our language experience this week. The aim is to explore language associated with light and colour. We're also focusing on what we see, what we think and what we wonder about.

Here's some photos of our investigation.

We used coloured plastic fans, a mirror, a torch and paper.

We explored shining our torches on the ceiling. It was amazing! Our torches shone colour up onto the ceiling.

We played around and found we could bounce light onto paper using a mirror.

We learnt a new word: reflection.

This investigation prepared us for our trip to the Len Lye Centre where we would see artworks that use light and sound.

Marshmallow Science

A few weeks back, Room 3 did science with marshmallows. We were looking at changes the happen when marshmallow is mixed with water. We were learning to look closely and track changes over time.

Here's some photos of our investigation.

Here we are with three cups of warm water and the same coloured marshmallows in each. We watched them for a while and then mixed it.

Here's Mrs Wigley working with a group.

Here we are looking closely and recording what we saw on our graphic organiser.

We did some thinking about what we thought was happening.

We discovered that the water changed colour as the marshmallows dissolved. We wondered where the marshmallow went. We also wondered what would happen if we put two different colours together in the same colour. We watched the water turn a yellowy/brown colour.

We wrote about our investigation using our graphic organiser for detail about what we saw.
We had a lot of fun and we got to eat a few left over marshmallows when we were done.
