What Room 3's Up To

This page will share with you what Room 3 is up to this year.  It'll be regularly updated.  Make sure you log on to the RSS feeder or bookmark this blog so that you're updated whenever we update this page.

Term 3:
This term we will be studying science in a unit called: Over the Rainbow.  We will be looking at shadows, light, colour, and the weather.  We're focusing on gathering and interpreting data.  It's going to be loads of fun.

This is also our Production term.  Guess what?  The Production is also called: Over the Rainbow.  Our class will be the Hot Sparks (boys) and Fireflies (girls).  We are busy learning our dances and songs.  Please come along to our Production in Week 10.

We are going to begin using QR Codes in our classroom.  Check out the QR Code post to download a QR Code Reader.  These will be used in our learning stations and in our inquiry work.  Mrs Young is learning lots about QR Codes right now.

Cross Country is this term!  We're going to be learning drills and training for the school Cross Country in Week 6.

What an exciting term!!

Term Two: Last week, Room 3 went to Puke Ariki.  We experienced the World War One exhibit and also learnt about Puanga.  Here are some photos of us at the museum.

We hope that you'll join us for our Puanga celebrations: the last Thursday of term 2.

Room 3 has also been studying Geometry.  We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes.  Here's some of our activities.

We did abstract art too.  Check out our posts for more writing about this.

Here are some of our artworks.

In Term One:

Our inquiry for term one is called: Under the Rocks.  Our big question is going to be "Whose house is this?"  We visited the Kawaroa rock pools to investigate what lives under and around tidal rock pools. In class we have been working and communicating like scientists.  We're learning to draw like a scientist and research the habitats of creatures that live in the rocky shore.

Here's a video of our recent trip to the rock pools.

As part of our inquiry project, we have been looking at habitats.  Here are some photos of our recent science lesson where we categorised what belongs in each habitat and thought carefully about why creatures live there.
